Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds to ensure profitability, which can distort the true implied probabilities. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to represent a more accurate assessment of potential outcomes. While sportsbooks may be influenced by public betting patterns and promotional considerations, the prices here are determined solely by supply and demand among participants willing to take either side of the outcome. It's worth comparing the implied probabilities to see where discrepancies lie.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived likelihood. Conversely, selling pressure drives the price down. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants, creating a dynamic and responsive indicator of expectations for the Mumbai M25 match. The current volume indicates active trading and evolving opinions.
