Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a player, the odds on Polymarket will likely shift to reflect that belief. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players’ form and potential. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the M25 Mumbai tennis match. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular player, the price increases, indicating a growing expectation of their victory. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price, suggesting a diminished likelihood of success. This creates a dynamic and responsive market.
