Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market’s odds are determined by individuals willing to put their capital at risk. This can lead to discrepancies, especially in situations where public opinion diverges from expert analysis or where there is asymmetric information. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, as traders continuously update their assessments based on the latest developments.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with no central authority setting the odds. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system that can quickly incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
