Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or risk assessments. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability from this market and sportsbook odds, it might indicate an opportunity for value betting, or a disagreement about the likely outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular outcome will happen, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective forecast. Trading volume and order book depth also influence price discovery.
