Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to adjust probabilities based on new information and their own assessments. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to information, or biases present in each system. It’s common to see this market converge towards what many believe is the 'true' probability as the event approaches, potentially offering value compared to fixed-odds betting.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price movements are driven by the collective sentiment of traders on Polymarket, and the volume traded indicates the level of interest and conviction behind each prediction.
