Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and aim to profit, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of individuals willing to put their capital at risk. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, though it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees of the final result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous, decentralized exchange mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a 'yes' share, for example, indicates the probability of Samuel De Felipe Garcia winning, while the price of a 'no' share represents the probability of Alexander Brown winning. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and changing expectations.
