Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of informed traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither is guaranteed to be perfectly accurate. Analyzing both can provide a more comprehensive view of the potential result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price fluctuates to reflect the evolving consensus. The market’s liquidity, indicated by the trading volume, also influences price discovery. Currently, the market is driven by the collective insight of those trading on Polymarket.
