Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to make accurate predictions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event's likelihood. If sportsbook odds significantly differ from those seen here, it may indicate an opportunity for informed traders to capitalize on perceived mispricings and potentially profit from the difference in expectations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular outcome will happen, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds continuously adapt to new information and changing sentiment leading up to the event.
