Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced a player’s chances, the prediction market odds may move in the opposite direction. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of money flows into either venue, as information and opinions evolve.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on Polymarket.
