Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, the odds on Polymarket may diverge. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more accurate probabilities, especially when complex factors are at play, though discrepancies can occur due to differing information access and risk assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who buy shares in a particular player, the higher the price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event’s potential results, based on the information available to traders.
