Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial odds to balance their liabilities and may incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each player winning. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of trading activity. It’s common to see prediction market prices move more efficiently in response to new information than sportsbook odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will rise, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic pricing system that reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants regarding the Luanda tennis match.
