Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a significant amount of volume is traded. These differences can arise from varying information sources, differing levels of expertise among bettors, and the influence of public perception. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, and traders aim to profit by accurately assessing the likelihood of the match result. This creates a dynamic pricing system that evolves as new information becomes available.
