Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying levels of information and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome. It's common to see prediction markets outperform traditional forecasts, especially when a large number of participants contribute to the pricing.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price will adjust to reflect the collective expectation of the event's outcome. The current price reflects the aggregated view of all traders on Polymarket.
