Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probability of an outcome as assessed by traders. Polls and analyst predictions currently favor one fighter, but this market provides a unique view based on financial commitments. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to information, and the motivations of participants. It's valuable to compare these sources for a more comprehensive understanding.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in an outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading activity influence price discovery, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current volume traded is $386.
