Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market aggregates the beliefs of a diverse group of traders. Often, prediction markets can be more accurate forecasts, especially when there's significant public interest and information available. However, sportsbook odds can be useful for identifying potential value discrepancies. It’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived using different methodologies and incentives. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive view of the expected outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Mitsui vs Krueger match. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a probability distribution. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders believe a particular outcome is likely, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, offering a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
