Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks may focus on factors like past performance and public perception, this market incorporates a wider range of information and the collective wisdom of traders. This can lead to discrepancies, as prediction markets are often more sensitive to nuanced arguments and real-time developments. It’s common to see differences in implied probabilities, with this market potentially offering a more accurate forecast based on informed speculation.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the latest information and collective intelligence of participants.
