Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular outcome. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies and information sources, and can be influenced by public perception and betting patterns.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates what traders, as a group, believe is the likelihood of each competitor winning the M25 Austin Abel vs James match, based on available information and their own analysis.
