Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a larger number of participants contributing to the prediction market price. If there’s a significant difference, it might signal that the crowd believes a sportsbook is undervaluing or overvaluing a particular outcome. It’s always valuable to compare both to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, reflecting the aggregated forecasts of all participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market constantly adjusts to new information and changing sentiment.
