Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their books and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective belief of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of both markets. It's common to see this market adjust more rapidly to new information than traditional sportsbooks, potentially offering value for informed bettors who compare the two.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and responsive assessment of the event’s potential results.
