Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and risk assessments, while this market relies on the willingness of individuals to buy or sell based on their beliefs about the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when public opinion diverges from expert analysis. Examining these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring – a higher price indicates greater confidence. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and expectations of participants.
