Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows a broader range of participants to express their beliefs. If sportsbook odds are available, comparing them to the probabilities implied by this market can reveal discrepancies and potential value bets. It's important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, but are derived through different mechanisms and influenced by different factors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a specific outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and sentiment. The market's efficiency relies on active participation and informed trading.
