Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market aggregates the beliefs of informed traders. If a significant difference emerges, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both venues. However, it’s important to note that prediction markets may incorporate information not yet reflected in sportsbook odds, such as injury reports or subtle strategic shifts, leading to discrepancies.
