Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from initial sportsbook odds which may be influenced by public perception or bookmaker biases. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action on both sides, while this market allows traders to express their independent beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, analytical approaches, or simply variations in opinion. It's common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to odds that diverge from, or converge with, those offered by traditional sportsbooks as the event approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The closer the event gets, the more sensitive the price becomes to new information and shifts in sentiment. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the traders participating in the market, offering a unique perspective on the potential result of the Oki vs Kawanishi match.
