Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from those initially set by sportsbooks. Discrepancies can emerge due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of each system. It’s common to see prediction market prices shift as new information becomes available, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities than those offered by traditional sportsbooks before the event begins.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence.
