Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their analysts' assessments, while this market's probabilities are driven by traders actively buying and selling shares. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced the outcome, they can express that view by trading on Polymarket. This can lead to prediction market odds diverging from, or converging towards, those offered by sportsbooks, depending on the collective insight of market participants.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and trader sentiment.
