Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the wisdom of the crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. If you find a significant difference between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it might signal an opportunity for value betting, depending on your own assessment of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds represent the collective intelligence of those trading on the platform.
