Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can often be more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as an event approaches. Sportsbooks often incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perception, while this market aggregates the diverse opinions of many traders. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing levels of information or risk appetite between prediction market participants and sportsbook customers. It's common to see initial odds diverge, then converge as more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants and adjusts in real-time based on new information and trading activity.
