Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players’ form. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook odds, it might indicate an opportunity for value betting, assuming you agree with the market's assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular player, the price of those shares increases, indicating a higher perceived probability of that player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, reflecting the aggregate predictions of all traders participating in the market. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system, constantly adjusting to new information and sentiment.
