Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit by balancing action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can take a position in this market, driving the odds closer to their collective assessment. It's common to see discrepancies, especially early in the market's life, as information and opinions evolve.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment surrounding the Shenzhen tennis match.
