Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis, while this market aggregates the predictions of many individuals, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise from differing levels of information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. If there's a significant difference between the two, it may present an arbitrage opportunity for informed traders, though such opportunities are often short-lived as the markets adjust.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading it, creating a real-time probability assessment of the match’s result.

Several factors could influence the odds in this market before the match concludes. Any news regarding player injuries, changes in playing conditions (like weather), or updates on player form could shift market sentiment.
