Frequently, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This is because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, allowing traders to weigh various factors and information sources. Sportsbooks, on the other hand, typically set odds based on models and internal analysis. While both attempt to predict the outcome, differences in methodology can lead to discrepancies. It's common to observe that this market reflects a collective assessment that diverges from initial sportsbook offerings, especially as new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand, meaning that significant trading activity or a shift in sentiment can rapidly alter the odds for the Waldner vs Faucon match.

Furthermore, broader trends in table tennis, such as evolving strategies or equipment advancements, might influence traders’ assessments. A surge in trading volume driven by a prominent analyst’s prediction could also cause noticeable movement in this market.
