Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probabilities as assessed by traders. You may find that the implied probabilities in this market differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks, potentially offering an edge to informed participants. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or levels of market efficiency. It's valuable to compare both to form a comprehensive view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current volume traded indicates the level of interest and conviction surrounding the Salbiev vs Faucon match.
