Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess the probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, as the 'wisdom of the crowd' on Polymarket may weigh factors differently than sportsbook algorithms. It’s common to see prediction markets reflect more accurate probabilities, especially when there's significant public information available, but sportsbook odds can still provide a useful comparative data point.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the collective prediction of all traders participating in this market, and the volume traded indicates the level of interest and confidence in each possible outcome. This dynamic pricing ensures the market stays responsive to new information and evolving expectations.
