Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. However, discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, information access, and risk appetites between prediction market participants and sportsbook oddsmakers. It's valuable to compare both to form a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, indicating growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by the supply and demand within the market. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective prediction.
