Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action, potentially incorporating biases or margins, while this market aggregates diverse opinions. If many informed bettors believe a player has a higher chance of winning than implied by sportsbook odds, the price will adjust accordingly. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform traditional sportsbooks, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available. However, discrepancies can arise due to differing liquidity and market participants.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price converges towards a collective assessment of the likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; if more traders believe Bogdan Seleznev will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving expectations of the crowd.
