Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, factoring in a margin for themselves and potentially public biases. This market, however, represents the aggregated beliefs of individuals willing to put their money behind their predictions. While sportsbook odds may initially differ, they often converge with prediction market prices as more information becomes available and traders refine their assessments. Discrepancies can signal potential value or mispricing, prompting further analysis of the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates what traders are willing to pay for a unit of exposure to the outcome, providing a clear signal of market expectations. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information.
