Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probabilities as assessed by traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a significant amount of volume is traded. Comparing the two can reveal where the 'wisdom of the crowd' differs from professional oddsmakers, potentially highlighting undervalued or overvalued outcomes in the San Gregorio tennis match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that player’s victory will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
