Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, particularly as the event approaches. However, sportsbook odds can initially move faster based on breaking news or expert analysis. This market, like others, may show differences in implied probability compared to sportsbooks due to varying information sources and differing levels of market participation. It's important to consider both when forming your own assessment of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, constantly adjusting based on new information and trading activity.
