Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and opinions from traders. If sportsbook odds suggest a clear favorite, it’s interesting to see if this market agrees, or if traders believe the sportsbook is undervaluing or overvaluing a particular player's chances. Discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments or access to unique information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading it.
