Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, whereas this market is driven purely by traders expressing their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists, it could indicate that the market perceives information differently than sportsbooks, or that one venue has sharper bettors. It’s always useful to compare both to form a well-rounded assessment of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of the outcome it represents; a share trading at 60 means there’s a 60% implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information.
