Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise. However, it’s important to note that prediction markets typically have lower liquidity than established sportsbooks, which can impact execution. Examining these differences can offer valuable insights into public perception versus professional analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates what the collective market believes is the likelihood of a specific player winning the Pembroke tennis match. The market is driven by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis.
