Prediction market odds often provide a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. While sportsbooks may initially have different odds, they often adjust as new information becomes available, potentially converging with the prediction market’s assessment. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or varying interpretations of the players’ form and potential.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a player will win, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and collective sentiment of the traders participating in this market.
