Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can be valuable, as prediction markets sometimes identify mispriced outcomes or incorporate information faster than sportsbooks. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither guarantees a correct prediction.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment.
