Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe an outcome is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the price of shares in that outcome will rise. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a larger and more diverse pool of participants influencing this market. It’s a useful comparison point for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy into a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants. The current price represents the market’s best estimate of the likelihood of each player winning the Monastir tennis match.
