Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to be accurate. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply how each venue processes available data. If significant differences emerge between this market and sportsbook odds, it may signal that traders believe the sportsbook is mispricing the event, or that they have access to unique insights.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined entirely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the Monastir tennis match.
