Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can take the opposite position in this market, driving the odds closer to their collective assessment. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant information becomes public, or when there’s strong public bias influencing sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts dynamically, reflecting the evolving consensus. This creates a constantly updated forecast of the match result, driven by the collective intelligence of the traders on the platform.
