Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying levels of engagement from different groups of bettors. If there’s a significant difference between the odds here and those offered by sportsbooks, it might suggest that traders believe the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular outcome. Examining these differences can be a valuable part of your research.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and it’s constantly updating as new information becomes available or sentiment shifts. This dynamic pricing allows for a real-time assessment of expectations.
