Prediction market odds often reflect a different set of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a margin for profit, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event as determined by traders. Therefore, you may observe differences between the implied probabilities on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks. These discrepancies can arise from varying levels of expertise, access to information, and the influence of public opinion. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa.
