Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market relies on the incentives of traders who have skin in the game. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, especially when new developments emerge that impact the perceived probability of an outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of the event happening. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
