Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own analysis and information. If there's a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome and can be influenced by various factors, including public perception and breaking news.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability of that player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of shares is determined by supply and demand, with traders effectively setting the odds based on their collective assessment of the match. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and expectations.
